“As college coaches began to recruit me, I realized that choosing a university was about so much more than just the athletics…The driving factor behind my decision to attend Dartmouth, aside from the dedicated coaching staff and exciting future of the basketball program, was the level of academics. I knew by choosing to study at an Ivy League school, I would be stretched mentally. My decision to attend Dartmouth was not a four-year decision based solely on athletics, but a forty-year decision based on the life-long opportunities the school offers…

Although the decision and process of attending university outside of Canada may seem daunting, it has, personally, been the best decision I could have ever made. I have been challenged and pushed outside of my comfort zone in so many ways since arriving on campus in early September. I cannot stress the importance of asking as many questions as possible about all aspects of student life at your prospective school. Not only will you be studying at a school, you will be living there most of the year and creating invaluable memories – it is a very important decision.

For athletes that strive to play south of the border, think about what you would like to get out of your university experience. There will eventually come a day when you have to think about life after athletics, choosing the right university will help equip you for that day.”
